This is an old recipe that came from our Grandma. My dad had it recently at my aunt’s house and shared the recipe with me. He showed me a recipe booklet that was put together by his sister of their mother’s recipes. Each recipe was very short – a list of ingredients and maybe an instruction or oven temperature. That’s it! He said his mom knew how to put things together, that’s why there weren’t any instructions.
Very simple, a perfect backdrop for beautiful strawberries and fresh whipped cream, to great for this time of year.
1/2 cup BUTTER, melted
1 EGG
1 cup MILK
1 teaspoon VANILLA
1 3/4 cup FLOUR
2 teaspoons BAKING POWDER
1/2 cup SUGAR
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Butter pan (you can use an 8 x 8 baking dish or I used a deep dish glass pie pan and it worked great)
Mix wet ingredients, add dry ingredients. Stir to combine.
Pour into prepared pan.
Bake 15-20 minutes or until cake tests done with a toothpick.
Serve with berries and whipped cream. Makes 8 or 9 servings.
