Butterfinger Oreo Ice Cream Dessert

September 2, 2010 By Crumbs and Chaos

Spread the love

The name says it all…I love oreos and I love butterfingers…so what a better dessert than this! Another so simple dessert to put together and you can’t go wrong with it!

All you need:
1 pkg of oreos (not double stuffed)
8 butterfingers
1 stick of melted butter
1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream

In a zip lock bag crush oreos and butterfingers. (It’s easier to crush a little at a time and then put in a bowl.) Once all crushed, mix in a stick of melted butter. In a 9×13 pan press down 1/2 the mixture. Then, put ice cream on top of mixture. (I opened up the whole container of ice cream and cut it into slices…then it’s easy to pat down in the pan.) Cover the ice cream with remaining 1/2 mixture. Lastly, put in the freezer until you’re ready to eat it!

    Hi Becca,

I love your website, recipes, and photos!

I found your site while searching for my mother-in-law’s “Dirt Dessert” recipe. Most that I found had the pudding/cool whip/cream cheese filling but I was looking for the one with Butterfingers and ice cream, which yours has. I know it’s simple but I’d misplaced my own recipe and needed a little nudge to my memory for ingredient measurements. Her version originally used Clark Bars, which aren’t available anymore but, obviously, were very similar to Butterfingers. We raised our own children enjoying it and now I’m celebrating my oldest grandchild’s 13th birthday with Dirt Dessert instead of a standard cake.

I didn’t use as much butter as your recipe calls for, only 1/4 cup per bag of cookies, to cut back a little bit on the fat and guilt. I also used my food processor for the cookies and candy bars which made things a lot easier, in my opinion. Since they’ve cut back on weights and volumes in so many things, I used two, 14 ounce bags of cookies, 1 stick of butter, 20 snack-size candy bars, and almost two containers of ice cream for one and a half pans and it turned out just awesome! Of course, it would be pretty hard to mess this dessert up, wouldn’t it?

Thanks for your great recipe site! I have it bookmarked and will be back. Your scratch brownie recipe is my next project.
