My, what lovely dumplings you have!
In this case, that is a compliment…when you make this dessert, you will hear nothing but love from those you make it for.
This is a recipe from The Pioneer Woman. What can I say? She knows how to cook and she’s not afraid to use one of my favorite food groups – butter!
It’s simple and a great way to use a couple of the apples that you recently got from your local orchard. It has one mystifying ingredient – Mountain Dew. Don’t question this, just go with it. It makes the sauce for these dumplings.
Ingredients
2 GRANNY SMITH APPLES
2 cans (8 oz. each) CRESCENT ROLLS
2 sticks BUTTER
1 1/2 cups SUGAR
1 teaspoon VANILLA
CINNAMON
1 can (12 oz.) MOUNTAIN DEW
Peel and core the apples. Cut each one into 8 pieces.
Open the crescent rolls, wrap each apple slice in one crescent roll. You will have 16 dumplings.
Place the dumplings in a well buttered 9 x 13 baking dish.
Melt butter, add sugar, barely stir. Add vanilla. Pour this mixture over the dumplings.
Pour Mountain Dew around edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Bake at 350° for 40 minutes. You want it to be nice and golden on top.
Serve warm with ice cream and the sauce from the pan.
There’s barely words to describe its deliciousness!
