Day 6 – a classic that is enjoyed year after year – I mean who hasn’t had a peanut butter blossom? The peanut butter cookie is wonderful and then when you add the chocolate kiss it makes for a very yummy cookie! This cookie was originally created by Freda Smith of Gibsonburg, OH for the 1957 Pillsbury Bake-Off and it has been enjoyed ever since!
Peanut Butter Blossoms
What you’ll need:
48 Hershey’s Kisses
1/2 Cup Shortening
3/4 Cup Peanut Butter
1/3 Cup Sugar
1/3 Cup Light Brown Sugar
1 Egg
2 Tablespoons Milk
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 1/2 Cups Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Remove wrappers from kisses.
Beat shortening and peanut butter in large bowl until well blended. Add sugar and brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into peanut butter mixture.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a kiss into the center of the each cookie; the cookie will crack around the edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.
