If you’ve read my about me section, you will know that I love cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting! I made many batches of cinnamon rolls before I found and perfected this recipe! It is not a breakfast that is done quickly, but if you want a breakfast that is filled with love, this is the one!
You can make these cinnamon rolls anytime in a regular 9×13 inch pan, but for this time of year we like to make them extra special by shaping them into hearts and adding a few drops of food coloring to the frosting!
HEART SHAPED CINNAMON ROLLS
WITH CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
WITH CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
-1 cup warm MILK (110 degrees F)
-2 EGGS, room temperature
-1/3 cup BUTTER, melted
-4 1/2 cups BREAD FLOUR
-1 teaspoon SALT
-1/2 cup SUGAR
-2 1/2 teaspoons YEAST
-1 cup BROWN SUGAR, packed
-2 1/2 tablespoons GROUND CINNAMON
-1/3 cup BUTTER, softened
Dissolve the yeast in the warm milk in a large bowl. Mix in the sugar, margarine, salt, and eggs. Add flour and mix well. Knead the dough into a large ball, using your hands on a surface dusted lightly with flour. Put in a bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
After the dough has doubled in size turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, cover and let rest for 10 minutes. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread dough with butter and sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Roll up dough* and cut into 12 rolls.
Place rolls in a lightly greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Bake rolls in preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. Spread cream cheese frosting on warm rolls before serving.
*To make them heart shaped, after rolling out the dough into a rectangle and spreading with butter, cinnamon, and sugar, roll in towards the center from both ends. Then, after slicing, pinch the end to form a heart. Place on a cookie sheet and bake about 15 minutes.
After they have cooled spread with the Cream Cheese Frosting listed below.
