We do LOVE holidays ’round here and have had a great time bringing you this series.
Yesterday morning as I was reading my Facebook, I saw these adorable treats from someone who is related to and a huge fan of Crumbs and Chaos. We asked if she would end our series (and be our first guest poster) by sharing her cute idea with all of you. She said yes!
I’m so thrilled to have the opportunity to share this cute, simple craft with all of you for the holiday! My name is Brittany, and I am Megan’s sister-in-law. I’m currently student teaching in a 3rd grade classroom. On Monday, we’re celebrating Valentine’s Day by having a party and exchanging Valentine cards and candy. I did some browsing online for Valentine card ideas for my 3rd graders and I came across this one on familyfun.com (which is a GREAT website for crafts, games, etc.). The picture drew me in! They were fairly easy and didn’t take that long to make (…and I made 25!). I made a few modifications to the instructions on familyfun.com.
Here are the supplies that you need (adjust depending on the number of rockets you want to make):
– Life Saver ROLLS (I had to go to Sam’s to buy these in bulk. If you’re only making a couple of these, I’m assuming you can get Life Saver rolls at the gas station. You could really use any candy that comes in a roll)
– Hershey Kisses
– Construction Paper (I used red and orange for the flames, and purple, pink and red for the labels)
– Hot-glue gun (Familyfun.com used double-sided tape. I decided to use a hot-glue gun so that they would really stay together)
– Scissors
Directions:
1) I made all of the flames first and I can honestly say no two flames are alike! I just cut an oval-shape out of the orange and red construction paper and glued two ovals together (one orange and one red) at one end (leave room for the snipping- but also remember to leave a tab so that you can glue it to the Life Saver roll). After the glue has dried, use scissors to snip your flames (see picture).
2) While the glue was drying on the flames, I hot-glued the kisses onto one end of the Life Saver rolls.
3) How you create the labels is up to you. I cut squares out of purple, pink, and red construction paper (use one of the Life Saver rolls as your guide for how big your square(s) should be). I also used the computer to type out a message- “You’re a Blast!”- and I glued them onto my squares of construction paper.
4) Finally, glue on your labels and your flames!
This would be a great craft for a group of children to do -or- one child who wants to make something special for their classmates (remember to use supervision if you’re using a hot-glue gun). It’s a nice change from the ordinary boxed cards you can buy at the store and you’ll get props for being creative!
