When you are invited to a baby shower one of the first things you think of is what am I going to give as a gift?? There are so many options these days and with so many people finding out what they are having it is easy to buy for a boy or a girl. Of course, you can always go with the necessities like bottles and diapers and whatever else they may have on the gift registry, but today, I want to give you some unique gift ideas that are sure to please!
A HAND KNIT TOY
If you are a knitter or know someone who knits, this is a wonderful gift. A handmade gift usually requires more thought and creativity. It really shows your love by the time and effort you put into it. Handmade also ensures that it will be truly unique just like the little baby who will love it. This little monster was knit by my mom and was adapted from a pattern by Rebecca Danger. You can look in her book for even more inspiration.
A FASHIONABLE TEETHING TOY
I bought one of these bracelets about a month ago and not only do I love it, but it tends to be one of Maddux’s favorites as well. For me it is a piece of jewelry that I can mix and match with the jewelry that I already wear. For him it is a smooth texture that is easy to chew on to soothe his gums. There are many colors that come in bracelets and necklaces. I bought the brand Teething Bling, but I also saw the necklace above at Uncommongoods.
A MOBY WRAP
I always loved our front carrier with Jonah, but when Becca let me borrow her Moby Wrap when we had Maddux I was instantly in love with it. It is very long piece of jersey knit fabric and when wrapped correctly it holds your baby close to your body and snug enough that you can still use both hands. It is comfortable for you and baby. It is a great way to soothe the baby because it gets the warm close feeling of being in the womb and also allows the baby to hear the mother’s heartbeat. They also come in a variety of colors and even some organic fabrics.
A ONESIE AND SOCK BOUQUET
A few years ago I went to a baby shower for a good friend of mine. I wanted to buy her a few essentials but wanted to present them in a unique way. I went out and bought a package of white onesies and a package of pink socks (since we knew it was a girl). Then I took them and rolled them into flowers. I pinned them and arranged them with tissue paper and fake leaves to look like a real flower bouquet.
These are just a few of my favorite ideas, of course there are a lot more options! Just get creative! Find something that everyone else at the shower won’t have also bought, or stick with what you know they will need. Another last minuted great option is a gift card. A gift card to a store like Target can be used for pretty much anything the baby would need, but you can also buy a unique gift card to a store where you know they shop such as a cloth diaper store.
If you have kids, WHAT WAS THE BEST GIFT YOU RECEIVED FOR YOUR NEW BABY?
Erin says
The taggies blanket you made for S. is still one of our favorite things. She has been using as her favorite doll blanket recently.
Another amazing gift I received was having a personal chef come to our house after the baby was born and load us up with some amazing meals.
