Fruit Infused Water

June 21, 2012 By Crumbs and Chaos

Spread the love

Okay so it’s confession time…I really love to drink pop.  Obviously I know it isn’t the healthiest option but for some reason it is still my favorite.  As I am trying to move my family to more real food I have been trying to drink less pop.  I don’t buy it for home but if I go out to eat I usually order it.   I like drinking water but for some reason if pop is available that is what I choose.  Recently, when I was at the chiropractor I noticed she had a water dispenser with fruit in the middle.  My son loved it and after  a little research on the web I found that there are lots of varieties to choose from.

I ran across a blog that makes these fruit infused water in mason jars and she had a lot of great combinations.  You could also purchase a pitcher like this one if you wanted to make a bigger batch.  I found an inexpensive pitcher at Target for $7.99 so I use that for lemon water and make the other flavor combos in the mason jars.  The best part is it is getting me to drink more water and my son loves it as much as he does juice.

Here are some flavor combos that I have tried:
– Raspberry & Lemon
– Raspberry & Lime
– Strawberry
– Peach & fresh mint
– Raspberry & Peach
– Lemon

The possibilities are endless.  I have used both fresh and frozen fruit and they both worked great.  Obviously, I will use more frozen fruit when there aren’t as many fresh fruits in season.  I have also tried this with tea.  Place tea bags in with the water and fruit.  I usually make the water as I use it up so there is always a flavor ready to go.  Add more fruit to make the water more concentrated and then mix with plain water.  You will have to adjust based on your taste preferences.

What is your favorite beverage?

Ingredients
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen fruit
  • fresh herbs such as: mint, basil, rosemary, lavender
  • water
  • ice
Instructions
If using, add fresh herbs to jar or pitcher. Press and twist with a muddler or wooden spoon. This will release the flavor. Do not over do it as this will make a bitter taste.
Add fruit and gently muddle to release some of the juices.
Fill jar/pitcher with ice and add water to the top.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours and up to 3 days.
Enjoy!

Hi, My name is Carter and I am a 14 year old entrepreneur who is a 100% supporter of fruit infused water.

After watching “super size me”, I began to research about the negative health effects of soda and juice. Diabetes and obesity sound like terrible diseases. My mother, however, was not following this trend. She would create pitchers of water infused with fruit and drink that through out her day instead. However, when she would run out of the house, she would grab a diet coke or plastic water bottle. I asked my mom “why don’t you make spa water to go and she said she could not”

I saw the need to make a sustainable, portable version of these pitchers for people on the go. Unfortunately, the only other option for health conscious people is for them to buy plain water or plastic bottles of artificially flavored and sweetened water beverages.

Six months ago I started to create the Define Bottle. The Define Bottle is a cutting edge, glass and bamboo reusable water bottle for great tasting fruit infused water. I took the idea behind fruit infused water pitchers and made it mobile, not to mention stylish.

Fruit Infused water is great for kids too. I have 3 younger siblings and they are nuts over it!
