Parenting isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s a job that comes with its own set of joys, challenges and teachable moments. One of those teachable moments is sharing with our children to value and how to care for the world around them. I want my kids to enjoy the giving aspect of life and I want it to be second nature for them to take care of the people and the things in their lives.
Project Sunlight is about inspiring others to live sustainably and help create a brighter future for our children. I love the way the kids in the short film below share their clever and innovative ideas to help make the most of the space they live in and enjoy a better place for themselves and their families. When I was growing up, our youth pastor always encouraged us to leave the place where we were in better shape than we found it. That statement made a lasting impact on my life and I want to teach my kids to do the same. At our house, we recycle and the kids have started asking before they throw something away if it goes in the trash or recycle bin.
As a part of Project Sunlight, we will be doing a Summer Sunlight Activity – we decided on One Ingredient, Five Ways. It’s important to show my kids how to think creatively when it comes to meals and that excessive food waste can be a thing of the past. We will be making 5 different dinners by making the most of one main ingredient. Stay tuned for our meal ideas in an upcoming post.
It isn’t the big things we do every now and then, it’s the small, every day choices we make that will impact future generations.
What ideas do the children in your life have to make a difference in the world around them?
