Two of my girls have summer birthdays and last year I decided that instead of having a birthday party with a full meal that we would just have an ice cream sundae party around 7 pm. It was a hit!
I spent the week before the party making a different kind of ice cream each day, which doesn’t take long but you obviously need plenty of time for freezing. You can also make things really easy and buy a few different varieties from the store. I’m a huge fan of homemade ice cream, so I wanted to make it myself.
Ice Cream Flavors:
Cake Batter (I left the Oreos out of that recipe)
Cookie Dough (I made Vanilla and added Cookie Dough – found the recipe in the Cookies & Cream Cookbook)
I had picked up a rectangular piece of tile from the Habitat Restore Store for pretty cheap and decided to use that on the table. I labeled it with the different flavors and put it in the freezer overnight. I put it on the table just before pulling out the ice creams to provide a chilled place for them to sit.
All the Extras:
Waffle Bowls, Sugar Cones, Cake Cones and Chocolate Waffle Cones
Brownie Chunks (make Favorite Brownies from Scratch ahead of time, cut into chunks and freeze until ready to serve)
Mini M&Ms
Chopped Oreos
Junior Mints
Marshmallow Bits
Hot Fudge and Caramel Sauce
Fresh Strawberry Sauce
Sprinkles
Extra Creamy and Chocolate Whipped Cream in a Can
Napkins, bowls, spoons
The party went over so well. The kids had a blast because having this many options for ice cream toppings is their dream come true! After everyone made and enjoyed their sundaes, it was time to open presents. Then we had some time leftover to enjoy the summer evening. The only thing I would change for the future is to not buy as many cones. Most everyone used a bowl and that meant they didn’t need a cone, so then I had cones for days… (which honestly wasn’t a real problem 😉 ) There wasn’t a ton of clean up, which made it a super easy party to host.
