I can’t lie… one of my all time weaknesses is fountain Pepsi! If I’m really lucky it will be Wild Cherry and come with crushed ice! There is just something about it on a hot summer day or with a hot slice of pizza that is magical! The problem is… I know how awful it is for me. Pretty much everything about it. And even worse, is that I don’t want my kids to have it, but somehow they always sneak a few drinks and constantly ask why I’m allowed to have it, but they aren’t?! Which of course I don’t have a good answer for, beside “Because I’m the mom and you’re not” or “Because I said so.” So in my attempt to cut back on all of that, I have switched to drinking tea. Sometimes sweetened or sometimes mixed with lemonade. The problem with buying it bottled is that it is still has a lot of the junk that I was trying to get away from with the Pepsi. When my boys told me that they had the best Peach Tea at their Grandma’s, I knew there had to be a way to recreate that delicious drink at home. Enter peach syrup. Of course it is still sugary and sweet but in making it at home we eliminated the high fructose corn syrup and the artificial flavors and colors. This syrup is incredibly easy and perfect for tea, lemonade, or a combination of both! I use approximately 3 Tablespoons per glass full, but the great thing is that you can adjust it to your desired taste or you could make it by the pitcher.
- 1 cup WATER
- 1 cup SUGAR
- 3 fresh PEACHES, peeled and sliced
- Bring water, sugar, and peaches to a boil. Then reduce heat to medium. Stir to dissolve sugar. Turn off heat cover and let sit for 30 minutes. Strain syrup through a fine strainer to remove fruit pieces (save peaches for eating or garnishing drink, if desired). Serve over ice with tea or lemonade.
