Long time, no post….I know. I’ve been busy doing all the things – starting a coffee roasting business, homeschooling, working at church, moving away from our country house during a pandemic. Whew! It’s been a busy couple of years.
I’m returning to this space with a bit of a different spin…we’ve always shared delicious recipes and tips and tricks on occasion. But my personal focus lately has been on community and after the last year with all the being separate and staying home, I believe there’s an even greater need to cultivate community in the spaces where we live and work. So, can we deep dive into that?
Let’s start from the top –
about me
I’m Becca – wife and mom of 4.
I keep myself busy with many things – I’m the administrative pastor at my church, co-owner of Aria Craft Coffee, homeschooling mom, lover of food, challenged by fitness, thrilled by a great deal, an introvert and Enneagram 9, regular nap taker and refreshed by a gorgeous sunset.
I dislike driving all the places, but love to travel and see the world.
I’d take a book over a screen any day, but find common ground in my marriage with some very hilarious Netflix shows.
I’m almost 40 and shake my head everyday at how funny the humans I’m raising are becoming – seriously, there are hard days, but teenagers are so comical and entertaining. I’ve learned to love all of the ages and stages that we’ve been through.
from food blogger to ambassador of community
In May 2010, I talked my three sisters into starting this blog, Crumbs and Chaos. We were all young mothers and before long we had 14 kids between us (you’re welcome, Mom! 😉) We shared tried and true recipes that our families loved and that were simple to make. I developed my photography skills and enjoyed that as much as the recipe posting. Eventually though, the demand required to be a food blogger with social media and all had me running to hide under the covers…I needed a break. So I took one, shortly after we began a coffee roasting business, which is still mostly a hobby, but a fun one. With a family and all the other things, there was plenty to do and so I just left the blog up as a resource which I referred to often because our favorite recipes are still housed here, but didn’t have any real plan to return to food blogging.
I’ve always enjoyed hosting groups of people and spending time together over a meal, even when it was hard because of the time required to get the house ready and cook with 4 young kids running around. These times, if you have a church background, would fall in the category of fellowship – spending time together with people who have similar interests as you. It became obvious to me that this spending time together, this creating space of community was largely important in my life, but needed to be emphasized – especially in the church setting. I spoke a message once at our church about this subject, you can find it here —-} message. Shortly after, we had a worldwide pandemic, which required us to stay at home with our families for quite sometime, to retreat from social situations which we had come to know and love and distance ourselves from extended family members. This separation was so, so hard in many different ways. But it left us all with a void that could only be filled by doing what we were created to do – communing with one another. Spending time laughing and learning together, cooking and eating together, being competitive over board games…we missed all of these things.
But, it’s summer of 2021 – it’s time, ya’ll…time to bring back community – the soul refreshing feeling that comes from spending time together with your people. So that’s what I want to talk about in this space for awhile – Ingredients for REAL Community – creating the abundant life through people + food + places
I sure do hope that you’ll join me 😊
